Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) are small, titanium anchors used in orthodontics to enhance tooth movement efficiently and comfortably. They can be employed alongside braces or as an alternative to headgear.
Placement and Removal
TADs are placed under local anesthesia to numb the gum and jaw area, ensuring the procedure is pain-free. The process is quick and typically causes only a temporary sensation of pressure. Once their role in aiding tooth movement is fulfilled, TADs are easily and painlessly removed.
Managing Discomfort
Any discomfort from the placement can usually be alleviated with Tylenol®. Persistent pain should be reported to your dentist promptly.
Care Instructions
Clean TADs as you would braces—by brushing three times a day. Additionally, an antimicrobial mouthwash will be provided for use twice daily to help keep the TAD clean.
